Someone raised an issue with same sex couple staying in egyptian hotel. I am married in a same sex relationship. We are not totally backwards in Egypt but if you are thinking of booking a double room in a hotel then I think you will have issues. You book a double room and 2 males check in then questions will be asked. Book a twin room then you will be seen as tourists. Marriage certificate or not will make no difference to a same sex couple.
Also do not walk the streets holding hands or showing affection to each other. Although I have no objection living here there are some rules you need to understand. Do not want to be a doom and gloom merchant but many say sure it is ok we are liberal but Unfortunately, locals, religion and police do not see it that way so hope you understand and really think your plans before booking a double room which will cause you many issues.
It also depends where your 'Egyptian hotel' is. The further you get from Cairo , the more conservative people are, no matter what the law might or might not say. Sorry if by asking you felt i was meaning your society is backward, that was not my intention. It was to understand your laws and customs so we dont offend anyone. When every we travel we do check to understand, we are not overly affectionant in public. We have booked a double room as this was done by our travel agent, but i have also emailed the hotel to clarify so that there are no issues or embrassments at checkin.
I look forward to coming to Egypt and to experince the culture and history. I am British and live in Port Ghalib. I am not a Million miles from Utopia Beach but can not comment on their policies. I would still be a little open as to what someone replies by email as having someone say it is fine could be completely different on check in. I am not offended and just advising as been stayed by others the further you are outside from civilization as stated then the looks and comments you could find offensive.
It is just way of life out here. I have only been here since May and rules, regulations can change by the hour lol. Just do not be to affectionate in public, tourists would not flinch but if in a local area try to hold it in. I guess what I am saying is do not be over blatant with it in public without me sounding offensive over it.
